Alternative Art Venues – Coffee Shops

Getting shown in a gallery can be a daunting task for some beginning artists.  Alternative art spaces provide other possibilities to getting one’s work shown, and might even offer up new networking possibilities.

Instead of having one’s art in storage, unseen, a possible exhibition space could be a coffee shop. Art will also be seen by a larger spectrum of visitors than if at a traditional art gallery. One’s audience will not be limited to gallery exhibition times, which are not always conducive to the schedules of most people, whereas a coffee shop allows for maximum exposure.

The artist that may be turned off to this idea, fearing they might not be taken seriously should consider this type of exposure a stepping stone to possibly getting noticed and picked up at a more formal place for exhibition.   Another huge “perk” is that the commission structure is probably more artist-friendly as well.
