look at this fucking hipster

One of my faves, Chuck Close’s Mark 1978-1979, acrylic on canvas, 108 x 84 inches, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art .  I paint in acrylics.  This is an unbelivable acrylic painting.  I stood in front of this giant face for an almost an hour.

It took fourteen months and a multitude of airbrushed layers that imitate the CMYK color model.

It is almost repulsive, yet it has a magnetism.  The eyes seem empty, yet full of anticipation, or maybe hope, or maybe the giant face is just going to swallow you.
